♥ D.I.Y Shabby Chic - Vintage Scarf Storage ♥

Hey guys! I have a lovely D.I.Y tutorial for you today!
This lovely Branch storage idea was just a little idea I tried on a whim but turned out to be so lovely, simple and cost effective that i thought i'd share it with you!

You can use this Storage solution to store Scarves as I have, or you could hang long necklaces from it too! A lovely way to show off your accessories and to give your room the Shabby Chic touch!

Here's a list of things you will need:

  • A branch, preferably quite a thick one!
  •  Ribbon
  • Two Nails & a Hammer
  • Paint (optional)

Step One

Acquire yourself a branch. My dad had just chopped a bush down in my garden so I nabbed one from there, but you could just head over to the park and pinch one from a tree!

Step Two

Remove and nibbly bits and pointy edges from the branch surface, this is especially important if you're hanging scarves from yours, you don't want to snag them!

Tip: Put some newspaper down to avoid turning your bedroom into the outer wilderness!

Step Three

Paint your stick any chosen color! Of course this is optional,i personally wish i had left mine bare, but it can add a special touch especially if you have a color scheme!

Tip: For a shabby chic look, paint your Stick with a matte white emulsion, allow to dry and lightly sandpaper any edges that would naturally wear down.

Step Four

Wrap your chosen ribbon around the most part of the Stick, leaving the ends exposed to reveal it's natural self!

Secure the ends by either tying them off or with some glue!

Make some simple slip knot loops for hanging by tying the ribbon around the Stick and knotting leaving enough excess to tie a loop from.

Remember, this doesn't have to be entirely neat! Like the famous quote from Clueless touches on, It's like a Monet, up close a big ol' mess and from afar a masterpiece.

Step Five

Time to hang! Place your Stickup to the wall you're hanging it on and mark at each end when it hangs straight.
Mine had a slight bend so it had to have one side slightly lower than the other in order to hang level.

Place two small nails into the marked positions and you're ready to go!

Step Six

Adorn you new Hanging Storage with your choice of accessory, I chose Scarves as I had so many nice ones I wanted out on display!

I just love how it looks hanging above my bed, the corner was quite bland and it's really brought some color to my white room!

I hope you try this out and love it as much as I do, Thanks for reading lovelies!

I'll begin with the Vintage part of my Haul as it's only a few small pieces.

I love the color and pattern of this dress I think it looks very 1950's style! It was a size 4 and I managed to squish into it! Hooray!

I also took a trip around my local charity shops, scouring around for pretty dresses and home ware! My luck was in as I found Two dresses Including one from Topshop! A Straw handbag and A cute little pot for my shelves!
The Topshop dress reminded me of one that Hell Bunny had brought out, Which I pined over but couldn't afford, so finding this made me happy I didn't splash out!
The second dress, is most probably a home made one with it's lack of a label. It's a full skirted, cotton swing dress and the first of my collection! It's so pretty and fit's nicely and I cant wait to buy a petticoat for it!

| Vintage Home Buys | Highstreet | No.2 |

Whilst out thrift shopping on a sunny Friday I came across lots of lovely little home ware pieces that I loved!

I thought i'd share these little gems with you and hopefully it will inspire you to look out for nice home wares in Charity shops and the High street!
There is nothing wrong with being cheap! It means more money for FOOD!

I saw a four set of these little soup bowls and dishes and they scream 60's/70's Hotpot!I thought they were thoroughly sweet and bright!
I also see nothing wrong with buying plates/cups etc from Charity Shops, as long as you give them a bloody good clean you're saving £££ in the long run!

I saw this and couldn't contain my nerd squeals, someone lend me £100.
A Mint condition Atari with a selection of games available to buy including Frogger and Pac Man! I think I can speak for everyone when I say asdfghjkl.

Atari Video Computer System

This next item, by far excited me the most. A Manual Singer Sewing machine from the 1930/40's. Bewildered by the £10 price tag I asked about it to the two adorable ladies working there, and much to my happiness it was £10 indeed!

Safe to say I snapped it up immediately and hauled my Brother out to help me collect it! It's cast iron and bloody heavy!

Once I got it home my dad looked it over and it all seems in working order, I'm going to move a sturdy coffee table into my room and set it up there and sew for England!

Cast Iron Singer Sewing Machine

Moving over from Charity Shops to High Street shops I'll start off with this adorable little pillow I spotted in Primark!
If it wasn't so overpriced (in my eyes anyway) I would of snapped it up!
I love the ditsy floral detail and the Vintage Bicycle motif!

And now onto some books i'm currently pining over! Both are from the works and if they have an online listing i'll link it for you!
The first is a Simple Pattern Book, by Orla Kiely. It's filled with lots of 50's and 60's inspired patterns, all of them very colorful and fun! J'adore!

Pattern By Orla Kiely
£4.99

The second and last thing was this book by Liberty! The Liberty Book of Simple sewing features simple ideas to make around the home including Tote bags and pretty aprons!
It's adorned with many a Liberty fabric pattern too, such a pretty book!

Outfit of the Day | No.5 |

Today I went into London to do some Vintage Shopping! I had a mild success, All of the School Kids were out so I couldn't have as good as a rummage as I normally would!

I managed to get my hands on a few bits which i'll write a blog-post about tomorrow, I'll leave the link here for future readers!

Anyway, I wore a Comfortable combo today as the weather was really awful!
I went for a few layers and my trusty little Jumper with copped sleeves, my favorite Topshop skirt and my Leather Jacket!

Most outfits are often paired off with my Dr.Martens as thy are just so sturdy for this time of year and keep your feet toasty!
I wear them with frilly socks from Topshop to add a feminine touch to an otherwise androgynous shoe.
I never leave the house without some kind of sparkle, the Brooch kind of sparkle!

I love this Wide Brimmed Trilby from Topshop, I didn't end up wearing for fear of it blowing away but it did add something to the outfit!
Of course, I top off the look with my Faux Fur collar to keep me warm! Such an essential to me now!

SS14 Trend Watch | Culottes |

Whilst browsing the Internet, Shopping...oop.. I came across a trend I've continuously seen everywhere, Instagram, Lookbook & YouTube.
Jumping into 2014 from the 60's, 70's & 80's but still keeping your dignity intact are Culottes!

Culottes; is pronounced 'queue-lots'(In case you had trouble like me)

I LOVE Culottes I think they're so sweet and stylish for spring and lovely to transition into summer.. maybe even Autumn too if you choose a lovely color like this TOPSHOP pair.

Floral Culottes
Topshop
£38
(No Longer in stock in the sale for £7, Look out for them on eBay)

Culottes allow for an effortless causal look, whilst still being quite well presented! The wider-brimmed leg type look exactly like a skirt, However when they catch the breeze they don't blow up like a skirt! HUZZAH! An answer to our prayers here in windy England!

A soft Floral designed culotte like these from TOPSHOP can make a sweet summer outfit, teamed with a sweet Lace Bralet like this one from FOREVER 21 and  coordinating accessories.

Sweet Lace Bralet
Forever 21
£12.15

Floral Wide Leg Culotte
Topshop
£40
(Recently in the sale for £3? I couldn't believe it! But all are sold out so again; TAKE TO EBAY MY PRETTIES!)

The last pair I have been umming and aahing over for a few days now. These culottes from ASOS are a bold Burgundy, and they flow nicely to just over the knees.

I'm unsure if they'll be too bold for day wear but for a night out they would look fabulous with a Black Lace Bralet and some Strappy Black Platforms!

Burgundy Culottes
ASOS
£11
Reduced from £38

I don't know about you but I am itching to purchase some culottes for when spring kicks in!

Outfit of the Day | No.4 |

Here's a quick outfit post of what i'm wearing today!

I was filming a few videos and doing some things at home with the family, so a casual but cute outfit was perfect!
I have my hair in Victory Rolls on top with loose curls on the bottom, and there's a big bow in the back of my hair that I forgot to take a picture of!

I threw on a fur collar for when the chill got in, as it's so warm and cosy I 100% recommend buying one if you're a vintage loving girl like myself, they add warmth and a little glamour to any outfit.

Work Outfit of The Day | No.3 |

Here's a quick rundown of my Casual Outfit of the Day that I wore to work today. It's only simple as I can't quite dress up for work but I felt cute & comfortable!

Jumpers layered over Dresses are a cute way to keep warm! This dress is actually a sleeveless one and the jumper conceals the top, meaning I could pack a tight fitting vest and t-shirt under my dress! My shop is fr-r-r-eezing at the moment, therefore layers are a must!

I also wore my fur collar over the top of the ensemble, as extra added warmth! I'm a Cosy Josy

Overall It's a simple Vintage style look, and a warm one too perfect for these harsh-winterz.

P.S. Excuse my bedroom! You know the struggle of being a girl and getting ready... being tidy didn't make the equation!
